方 便 时 候 不 能 来
Can’t Come at the Convenient Time
yí cì ，jǐ wèi zhōng guó tóng xué yāo qǐng gāng lái
一 次 ，几 位 中 国 同 学 邀 请 刚 来

Once several Chinese students invited a foreign student boy for a meal with them. The
foreign student was the new comer for learning Chinese language. In the middle of the meal, one of the Chinese students wanted to go to the washroom and he said : 方便一下（fāng biàn yī xià）. The foreign student didn’t know what did it mean.The Chinese students told him that meaned go to the toilet. The foreign student remembered this. One day, a girl wanted to visit the foreign student when he was convenient. The student immediately motioned with his hand and said:You can come every moment ,but when I go to the toilet you can not come.
Maybe you confuse now or you think there is no humorous sense in this joke. The humor is comed from the word “方便”.There are several meanings in this word.
◎ 方便 fāngbiàn [go to the lavatory] 我去方便一下=I go to the toilet
◎ 方便 fāngbiàn (1) [convenient] 商店设立在对群众方便的地点=Shop is set up in the convenient places for residents. (2) [fit] 这儿说话不方便=It’s not fit to say something here. (3) [have money to spare or lend] 这几天手头不方便=I have no money to spare these days. (4) [help] 望周全方便=Hope you every thing goes well.
But the foreign student boy only know the meaning:go to the lavatory.So he thought the girl wanted to visit him when he went to the toilet. Actually the girl meaned she wanted to visit him when he was convenient.
