被烤的鱿鱼
Squid being Grilled
Once upon a time, a man was fishing and he finally got a squid.
The squid pleaded him“ please, let me go, don’t grill me .” And the man
said :“ well, ok. Let me ask you some questions and see if you can answer
me.” The squid was so happy that he got a chance not to die, he said:“
ask, then .” And the man grilled him.
Well, you must be confused now, the joke doesn’t make sense. To understand the
humorous point in this story, you should know the enunciation of “grill” and “ask” in
chinese. It is clear that “grill” pronunces“ kǎo ”。But the word-“ask”, it has several
kinds of translations in chinese,so it has different pronunciations. And the word in this joke
meas test and pronunces “ kǎo ”. Then it’s clear that the man played a trick, when the
squid happily answered “ask, then”, the man grilled it reasonably.
