在中国朋友之间的交谈常常询问长辈或晚辈的一些基本情况，以示尊敬或关心，对此中国人会感到高兴。因此，谈论家庭是交谈的一个重要内容。
In China, people often ask about their friends' parents or children during conversations to show respect and concern, and people asked are normally pleased about this. Therefore, talking about family is one of the most important aspects in a conversation.
麦克： 你家有什么人？
Mike: Who are there in your family?
丽丽： 我，父亲，母亲，哥哥和妹妹。
Lilli: My father, mother, an elder brother, a younger sister and me.
麦克： 你父亲多大岁数？
Mike: How old is your father?
丽丽： 他今年六十了。
Lilli: He's sixty years old.
麦克： 他还工作吗？
Mike: Is he still working?
丽丽： 他已经退休了。
Lilli: No, he's already retired.
麦克： 你母亲工作吗？
Mike: And your mother?
丽丽： 她是个家庭主妇。
Lilli: She is a housewife.
麦克： 你哥哥和妹妹呢？
Mike: How are your brother and sister?
丽丽： 我哥哥是大夫，我妹妹还在上中学。
Lilli: My brother is doctor. My sister is studying in a middle school.
