越来越 "more and more..."
越，an adverb used in this fixed form, is often translated as "to be getting more and more". The word after 越来越 can be either an adjective or a verb. This pattern can only be used with one subject. 越来越 never precedes a noun phrase, since 越 is an adverb, unlike English phrase "the more …，the more…" which precedes noun or pronouns.
