Goddess Nuwa

   
    Goddess Nuwa, who was called ancestor grandmother among folks, was an ancestress of Chinese nation. There are temple and city survived after the name of Goddess Nuwa. Huai-nan Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosophical classic, recorded the story of Goddess Nuwa in one chapter named Peering into the Obscure:
   In ancient times after Pan Gu had created the world, the four pillars supporting the sky collapsed, so sky and land were not distinguished. Every now and then, forest fire, flood and wild animals would come to hurt people. Then Goddess Nuwa smelted five-color stone to patch the sky, used the four legs of huge turtle to support the sky, killed the black dragon to save people in midland and collected ashes to hold back the flood. With this, the folks could carry on living on the square land under the vault sky. Having done so much to people, Goddess Nuwa kept undertone. She stayed quiet under the glory of her brother, Fuxi, another god of Chinese nation. 
    Goddess Nuwa assisted Fuxi to put the whole world in order, and created human being with mud. In Chinese people’s mind, she was the heroine of fighting flood and patching sky, the goddess of marriage, women and beauty. 


                                             女娲
       一直被民间称之为人类祖先的女娲女神，是中华民族的祖先。各地有很多庙宇和城市因女娲而得名。《淮南子》作为古代的一部哲学经典，就曾用一章的内容来记述了有关女娲的故事，叫做“览冥训”。

        在盘古开天地之后，曾用四个柱子把天支撑起来，所以天地的差别还不是那么明显。但是，偶尔出现的森林火灾，洪水和野兽也会伤害人类！所以女娲就炼就五色石来补天，同时还用巨龟的四条腿来作为支撑。她还杀了黑龙来拯救平原的人们并囤积泥土用以抵御洪水的侵害。这样，人类才得以安定地生活在平原和万里苍穹之下。虽然为人类做了这么多好事，但女娲一直沉默不语。只是静静地生活在她哥哥伏羲的光环之下。伏羲是中华民族的另一位先祖。女娲还帮助伏羲让世界得以恢复以前的秩序，并用泥土造就了新的人类。在中国人的心目中，她既是抵御洪水和补天的英雄，也是媒神和美丽之神。
