Four kinds of simple sentences 四种汉语句子
Simple Chinese sentences can be divided into four kinds according to the elements, which comprise the main part of their predicates.
(1) Sentences with a verbal predicate动词谓语句 The majorities of Chinese sentences have a verbal predicate and are relatively complex. For example: 林娜的男朋友是医生。 他有一个姐姐。 我们学习汉语。 她回学院上课。 我们请他吃饭。
(2) Sentence with an adjectival predicate 形容词谓语句 In a sentence with an adjectival predicate “是” is not needed. For example: 我很好。 他这两天太忙。
(3) Sentences with a nominal predicate 名词谓语句 In a sentence with a nominal predicate, nouns, noun phrases, or numeral-measure words function directly as the main elements of the predicate, which especially describe age or price. In spoken language, it is also used to express time, birthplace, and so on. For example: 马大为二十二岁。 一斤苹果两块五。 现在八点半。 今天星期天。 宋华北京人。
(4) Sentences with a subject-predicate phrase as predicate 主谓谓语句 in a sentence with a subject-predicate phrase as predicate, the thing denoted by the subject of the subject-predicate phrase is usually a part of the thing denoted by the subject of the whole sentence. The subject-predicate phrase describes or explains the subject of the whole sentence. For example: 你身体怎么样? 我头疼。 他学习很好。
